A quantum leap

I have had a family of robins – growing up in the nest of a tree in my courtyard garden. Today they are gone. Over the last while, I would open the kitchen door in the morning and at dusk and and hear their excited cries for food when Mother lands on the nest. They would open their beaks wide and at the same time say, “Feed me, feed me!” Even the day before yesterday Mother Robin was constantly flying in and out of the nest – feeding them.
Yesterday morning I walked out to the garden to do some weeding and lo and behold, a metre away, there was one of the young robins staring at me – wide-eyed – silent – the first human that it had laid eyes on. We looked at each other for a very long time and he didn’t have any fear. Finally he flew off, unsteadily, a short flight – crashing to the ground and then sitting – adjusting to the added dimensionality – that he must now be experiencing. I reflected on his journey – from simply sitting day and night – in that cozy little nest in the top of the leafy cherry tree with his only contact being his mother – and then yesterday, jumping/flying down into the garden. From being fed one day to being on his own – flying around, finding food, being free in the world. What a quantum leap!! How amazing. What a miracle!!! I thought – we can all take quantum leaps (where time and space collapse!!! and we do miracles) in our lives like this young robin. What quantum leap would you like to make in your work or your life?
