The Capacity for Holding Light and Shadow
By Ellen Hayakawa on Sep 24, 2009 in Ellen Hayakawa's Thoughts, The Spiritual Wisdom of Children and Youth
As a culture and as a society we need to acknowledge and be aware that life has the capacity for holding, both the light and perhaps even more importantly the shadow. When the shadow is not acknowledged it comes out to bite us. The capacity for joy and happiness can only be increased by embracing the pain and healing the source of it. Illness and pain are indicators of the necessity to change beliefs, attitudes and as a result behaviour. All illness and pain has the capacity to point us in the direction of healing on all levels, spiritual, mental, emotional and physical. There is nothing that calls us more to the examination of our lives than illness, pain and suffering in our children. Parents will go to vast lengths to advance the health and well-being of their children (see Horseboy under Worthwhile Resources and Links – Autism) – things that they wouldn’t even dream of doing for themselves. Your children are your call to expand your own soul horizons as a human and divine being. I encourage each and every one of you reading this book to dig deeper into your pains and to truly heal them without the use of pharmaceutical drugs. If you are on drugs for depression, find a qualified medical professional committed to helping you to get off of them safely. If you want to read more about the reasons why you should do this refer to www.breggin.com Do your best without drugs to dig into your anger and the pain of your life and find out what treasures they hold for you. Then you will be healed and never have to experience that pain again. If you feel that you have to use them be conscious of only using these drugs as a short-term bridge. If adults do this then perhaps our children will not have to reflect and magnify our pain as well as their own, through their behaviour.
